One of my great joys in this life is to take the ferry from Victoria to the mainland, for it’s views are second to none. If as we hear, life started four and half billion years ago, how many of my ape like relations saw what I am seeing, although I have a tea in my hand?

I cannot take my eyes off the passing parade of beautiful ocean and landscape. it is unsurpassable. I must continue to remind myself to close my gaping jaw as the scenery simply outdoes itself at every kilometre.

Sadly the group in front of me has not looked away from their personal media devices once as one of nature’s great triumphs slowly shows it’s well turned ankles. I know it is none of my business who enjoys and who does not what is there to be seen, but for the sake of reaching a new level in some mindless game, it seems a waste.

I am sadly reminded of my favourite D.H. Lawrence poem, The Snake. The final stanza from the great writer reads:

“And so, I missed my chance with one of the lords

Of life.

And I have something to expiate;”

A pettiness.
